주다스 프리스트(Judas Priest)는 1969년 영국 버밍엄에서 K.K. 다우닝(K.K. Downing, 기타)과 글렌 팁튼(Glenn Tipton, 기타)에 의해 결성된 헤비 메탈 밴드이다. 주다스 프리스트는 현재의 헤비 메탈 사운드와 이미지, 패션을 만들어낸 주인공이자 일인자로서 알려져 있다. 1980년 발표한 ‘British Steel’에서 스스로 메탈 갓을 선언하고 이후 그것이 통칭이 된다.
일본에서는 비교적 일찍부터 인기를 확립하여 1979년에는 일본에서의 공연을 수록한 라이브 앨범 ‘Unleashed in the East’를 발표하였다. 1990년 ‘Painkiller’ 발표 후 보컬 롭 할포드의 솔로 밴드를 둘러싼 멤버들과의 갈등으로 롭 할포드는 밴드를 탈퇴하게 된다. 그 자리는 팀 리퍼 오웬즈가 채우게 되지만 롭 할포드 재적시와 같은 높은 평가를 받지는 못했다. 2003년에는 롭 할포드가 복귀, 2005년 2월에 ‘Angel of Retribution’을 발매하여 미국, 일본, 독일을 시작으로 유럽 각국에서 차드에 오르는 건재한 모습을 보였다. 같은 해 5월에는 일본에서의 공연을 가졌으며, 공연 실황을 담은 ‘Rising in the East’가 발매되기도 하였다.
